CKoford 24 Journal 1 September 1969 To 15 mi. W. of Quinivila, Dato. to Libertad, flew up 2 frogs in small stream (M.L. sps.). Then looked at Abay, down to Yellow River, & on to Km. 103, about 15 mi. W. of Quinivila, 11000'. Mud and rock walls near road, planted 60' eucalyptus, brush & wet ridge areas to S. of road. We set traps. Good water in canal. Developed toward river 1/4 mile, same area of 2-5' tall ridge on wet ground, at edge & in surrounding brush, many passerines with occasional dumps of pale greenish droppings 15 x 5 mm., like little scavenger. Guinea pig? I set saw traps there, and 2 steel traps. Set 24 snares in all. 2 September 1969. Cool overnight. My traps held 2 Phyllotis (walls), one Calomys (thick grain), and 5 Oryzomyx (mossy area under brush). Others took Phyllotis. I shot a Drilleria in eucalyptus. Saw Olophos, furider, furnarius. Frog eggs and tadpoles in canal. Departed about noon, to W., 7 1/2 miles to bridge, then 4 1/2 to Agallapampa (some supplies available). Down 7 1/2 miles to another bridge, up .6 mi. to Olayos jet, and on #3.7 mi. to Yantayahuad - narrow bay road. Campsite 1.7 mi. up road. We went on 1 1/2 mi. further, but more cultivated and exhausted, so camped all set on road turnout. Set all our traps, hoping to get live P. mogista. I set 33 live traps, 22 snares, from road to ridge 500' (alt.) above. Saw 3 Nethopacta flush from dense brush on high slopes. 3 September 1969. Rainier cool night. My traps held (live) 1 big Oryzomyx (sps.), 4 P. andium, 1 Akodon bolivianus, and (snared) 1 Ak. bol., 12 P. andium. MD had a dozen or so P. andium and Akodon. She now was out near her live traps in morning. Clean warm day. Put up specimens. Took in all traps. Departed about noon and drove to Trujillo, about 45 mi. from our side-road junction; slow, dirty, cable-d road. Jaleo in city, then departed to south and camped about 32 mi. S. on rocky desert at foot barren rocky hill. R.H. took a giddy or fled after dark. 4 September 1969. Drove S. through Chimbote, Casma. Stopped at newest lumber dealing firm: 200 post, 5 mi. NW of Pativilca, & I took a lizard (sps.). Then
