Cafed Journal 15 August 1969 3 mi. NW Macipe, Dpto. Lambayeque, Peru. 100' Hills for geckos. We found 2 or lizards, 1 atop, 1 at lee edge, + 1 on erosion pavement. Many old broken in sand; some made by crickets, little spider, geckos, other big serpents (5-80 mm long). M. had a lot at X. 15 August 1969. My snakes took 2 Micr (diversed), or 9 gm, t. 6 x 4, or 16 g. t. 6 x 4 (stone wave too). The other took 3 Mice, no other mice. I saw on lizards, hummingbirds, small fishes. Lizards on sand, lizards. | We shot a few leguats (7 birds). Strong breeze by 10 am.; can'to-at-turro clouds. Lizard w. black sand spike & ridge, I saw a bunch of lizards, 1' above ground. The Cricosaurus-like lizard shook forearms in air periodically; a display?- now ran rapidly shot distance, stopped, ran again, moving in jerky fashion. The sandy-dotted one (4046,4047) did push-ups, tandem of 3, and ventured about 10' out from bushes. Apparent lizard hole 100' from roads. I saw tracks of heavy-tailed lizards are tied w. bluish fore, sharp nose (about 16" long). Not a rich a site, in leaps, as area 4 mi. S. of Macipe. # I saw hummingbirds w. 2 long tail feathers. | We departed rathered from only erosion pavement direct w. no lizards, except a few to E. just below rocking hills. In creasing disturbance & planting. Took road to Puerto Eten- Roanslamps habitats en route. A dirty stick & cobble town, which had seen better days. Then on along coast thru Moraygua + Santa Rosa. Last had gaily painted fishing boats on beach, flocks of gulls + pelicans alongside, + a pair of Lava Terns on sand (red bill, white superc. line). Then out Pimental on dirt road (an industrial port), then to Chiclayo. Stopped & gawked. Then or north to a few km. N. of Lambayeque + took road to W. (just before curving an right) towards Moraygua. Camped at our July 1967 grounds. Mostly unchanged, except for extensive digging of sand. We set traps for Bandarangs. Abundant "rocks" of mouse tracks under Copperia bushes, & raccoon tracks of large many
