Llaco, 12 km. E. Paracoto , Opto. Ancash,
irrigation ditch, near shrubs and rocks. Not took a finch,
a [illegible] (released), hummingbird, yellow finch, & dove !
Pericad #7 P. anduin, t 11'x6; tunga flea in bone tail. Other bone
flea cysts in pinnea (some good). / I liked to look of irrigat.
ditch, a 25 yd. square stone tank about 500' above our camp
to NE. Green thereabout, but saw no unusual animal, No
frogs or tad poles in the "estanque." A local told me the area
here known as Llaco (or byfow). / I found old tin arrow net,
with eggshells, inside a 10 yd. diameter slabsford coral,
against rock wall. / Flush'd at 0739 a tin araw; another
stayed on ground near my feet for 10 sec. before going (ju?.)
Warm until noon; pleasant afternoon. 40° F. last night. Clear
calm quiet evening. Ray shot a big bullfinch. I saw
Sparrow Hawk during day. Ray saw a group of Parrots. We
are still trying to get a live P. roquista - have about 85 live
traps out on 3 slopes where have taken in snap traps.
12 August 1969. 40° minv. 30 live traps held 7 P. anduin. 56 live traps
held 2 of same, 1 each in large & small Sherman traps. Myrual caught 1
P. roquista (we hope) in big Sherman trap in same area. Few scattered dark
9340' i.e.
roving. / Departed 1440 and drove down road 2.8 mi. to bridge
(7600') over clear stream, where many eucalyptus trees. Then down
past large hacienda headquarters (massive church, anacardis tree
yard) to camp 2.6 mi. below bridge, where an old broken bridge
on S side, 6700' i. elev. (= 6 mi. ENE of Paracoto, 6500'). # We set total of
about 40 traps in rocks (dusty, scrubby) of dry canyon bottom and
end green (grass, brush) bottom. Berin mossy feet, but with
good + clear. Had lots, but took none in 1:30 net. Clear night.
