9 August 1969.
specimens. Then drove slowly down road to camp, where I camped July 11-12, 1967 and Sept. 7-11, 1967. This about 2½ mile down from summit
Over altimeter read 8250, + was 300' high last check, so about 8500'. On way saw barley being harvested by people, worn out in wind. All dirt road; one way with limestone. I camps area changed - the flat area cultivated by trocha, though intervening slopes not. Vegetation very dry - brush very dry & leafless, except in main draw where we had stopped. The red-flowered vine-bush in bloom. Moderate numbers birds. We put out many live traps, hoping to get alive P. mogister for cytotaxonomy work. I put out 12 crop traps near campsite. By 9 p.m. had 2 Phyllotis andinum, one by rock wall, one at edge magnay clump. Clearalm eve. In afternoon I flushed 2 single tiranancas, & shot one min.; 200 gms., M, +K. also took fleahd one, so must be fairly common.
10 August 1969. Another P. andinum dug well at camp. Min. temp. 47°;
my 2½ live traps held 2 P. andinum. During day, 30' net took 1 Zonotrichia, 1 small finch, 3 yellow-small finches, hummingbirds, and 1 dove. I put up some of these. Set 29 birchtraps again, on slopes between terraces, and 35 crop traps in same general area. Shot a finch + tyrannulit during day. Discarded P. andinum: ♀; 35 gms, ends. 2 R 2½/12 mm C.-R.; ♂ 2.3g., adult stern, no emb. or scar; ♂ 30g., t 9x6. Tunga flea in ear (on tail of another P. andinum.
Day warm; no breeze until now. Clear evening, calm.
11 August 1969. My live traps held 0; crop traps held 3 Phyllotis mogister (I judge), P. andinum. Left live traps (28, aluminium) and added 26 small Sherman traps in area. Took up crop traps, & set same 35 fairly upslope near water
