7 August 1969
16 gm. ?, discarded; dark green woods (white lamp), and (later, 8 a.m. and now on Neotoma). I lift snap set. Put out additional 22 near rocks, low shrubs, & moquey clumps, between camp and lake (about 200' abv. above).
There along drainage of the stream, on N-facing slope (again old burning of moquey). Shot a fern-sail (spec), with another on boulder in open grassland.
In green woods, saw birds all blue on rock (tanager?; also on previous occasions, other greenish areas). Heard the 'click-click' of frog near stream. I Clean all day; mainly most of time. An Indian told me the quebrado named Q. Corle (runs toward tunnel). He said deer in higher slopes of our site. I Late in day, shortly set 25 small live traps away shoulders & granite across road from camps. Clear, cold, calm evening.
8 August/1969. My traps held Calamys sorellus (moquey trapline), C. sorellus (RN catbox), O. decillus, Doyzomops, & Rhodon delicavies (old line in greenish) and Calamyx in live traps. Discarded Rhodon, 18 gm. ?, no amb. or seen;
O. decillus (07 t.3; ?1gm.); same, ?, 10gm., small. Tacka were in one snap trap (spec.) I Departed about noon and drove to Cotoe, about 15 mi.
Saw an Aplomado Falcon perch on boulder en route. Then onto Huaraz when we stopped. Then up the rather barren slope along road to Casma, its summit, Collan Pass, about 13200'. Then down 1 1/2 mi. to W. and camped, where Bob Hamilton and I stayed in 1967 left.
13. We set snap traps in near lake. Within an hour Myrnel had a Phyllotis pistorum. My-20 & I took are before 9p.m., at foot of stone boulder embankment near stream. Cold, clear, calm.
9 August 1969. My traps also held Calamys decillus. Myrnel took an Phyllotis river last evening. Frosty ground; minimum temp. about 250F. I shot a couple of birds (specs.). We put up
