C. Koford 54 Journal 4 August 1969 12500' 12 mi. El Catac, Dpt. Ancash, Peru. algodon We checked traps. I had 4 Phyllotis bolivianus, 2 Phyllostes; Leon put up all except 3 live. algodon. (About 5 p.m., yest. kodi algodon in trap; removed. Is active daytime. This one taken atop a rock in rock wall near riba. | Walked up thru shield & tree canyon, which grow narrower & steeper. Shot 2 birds (catolog). Myrnet & Kay had gone trapping luck; 3 mice told. | yest M. walked to far end (NE) of lake & back; a tree patch there. This afternoon she returned to set live traps. | I fished stream for an hour took 5 rainbow, 5-8", or gray fly. Largest a 6 or w. milt; little in stomach. | From 4 to 6 pm. I checked & set traps. Took 4 more algodon bolivianus from my 29 snaptraps line; left it set as before. Set 28 large folding aluminum Sherman traps in rock walls near thick bunchgrass, + 29 snap traps near stream (boulder, shrubs, tree lover, tall grass) up the wooded canyon. ½ overcast and calm at 7 p.m. Dark at 6:30. | Checked live traps about 8:30 p.m.; no catch. Lower line of snaptraps held 2 Phyllostes, 2 Cavy. About 9:30 p.m., checked about 20 traps. Hillman had put along rock embankment at lower side of canister; they held a large mouse (arundinis?) and 3 Phyllostes; removed & reset. We put 10 aluminum folding live traps along this wall. Clear calm night; ½ moon. 5 August 1969. About 0230, thermometer 18° F., I checked the traps at rock wall; none in 15 live traps, but 2 small mice in the (Hillman) snap traps. At 6 a.m., one more travel mouse in snaps, 0 in live. Live traps to N. of stream also held 0; lower 29 snaps held: algodon bolivianus (diseased?), 1 Phyllotis (spec.), and 1 Cavy. Upper line of 29 crops held 11 mice: 5/6 algodon (boliv?), 7/8 oryzomy, 1 Phy- llotis, 2 Carnaps. There all within 5 yds. of streambed in study
