Chihuahua
Can? de Santa Clara (5300 S.del N.)
10 July 1969
Saw Nycta beronicola in clear pool of a tributary.
11 July 1969. Departed 05:30 for Chihuahua. Saw Ravens, probably white-necked, on pasture & flying en route. Left shotgun with Davis, got mail at Delegacion Forestal, stopped a bit, & returned to Can? de Santa Clara by noon. Rain set in off last night, but none this morning.
We departed about 2 p.m. & drove N. To El Hueco; grasslands both sides of road, tho after much mosquito too. Farther N., same area of Llanos. We stopped 1/2 hr. on the Medanos near Sanomayuco; many lizards, mammals & insect-traps. Resisted Quail (1). Then drove about 2 mi. E. of Sanomayuco and sawked away champs of mosquito in fine hard sandy area. Saw several Johnrabbits (black-tailed) and Cattaloids within 1/4 hr. there, & many lizards, rodent burrows.
Heard coyotes call in evening. Reskicked for border crossing.
12 July 1969. Continued on to journey. No inspection on Mexican side, and minor on U.S. side except for live caterpillar for which Christman had a permit. We had to leave that for fumigation and mailing to Berkeley. Visited Thacker's in Las Cruces. Then on toward Berkeley.
End of trip
