Sierra Mojina, Chihuahua, Mexico.
This evening heard a Sereek Owl; at my imitation it came close in walnut trees and Erik bagged it (o 3908) with .38. Before shooting, hears call. Later played it & another came overhead, calling (not taken). Have a few late on road thru walnut
in eve, but not failed to take any.
30 June 1969. Saw 2 Lesser Night Howler feeding over cactus hillslope; later
2 flushes in Larrea, from slagpile brush. Heard Sereek Owl, Howler Owl,
at dawn. Coyotes showed in night nearby. Saw cottontail go down burrow
in mesquite yuca. Many coyote tracks and droppings. | Icaroptera - latitator

by ants, but took on rocky slope: q, 1+grvs; min.; 183-106-20-18; skull

"rough shin sand. Fresh Dipodomys tracks (large) in dust of mound on
threated
bare ground in Arroyos. In Larrea saw 1 pr. Black-chinned Sparrow,
& x Cnemidophorus. In mesquite, Crissal Thrasher (?), Mockingbird. Ground
(white-winged seen too)
saw other birds in walnuts. | We departed for highway to N; about 3 mi. on, at
entrance to Mojina min., a water "palm," where we worked. Big topelata for
adult Bane qigera's. Many down nearby on ground & in mesquite brush, also
C. Kinglet, Blue Grosbeak, & 2 White-necked Plover. Should be excellent site for
Syc. no.

nesting late. Nearly saw 1 Red-tailed Hawk. Found a large Phrynosoma on road.
|Drove on to sleepy B. Flores Moya, to get supplies. In town tree, grechler, plus
Doves, & House Sparrow. | Leaving town to W., bridge elev. read +1484 m.;
reset altimeter at 1050 ft. (200 higher than since Chihuahua on June 25). To E. of
river, rolling country with miles of solid Larrea; it appears. Just across
south side narrower
bridge we took good dirt road south along escarpment toward Cope
(mostly can) near river. Big cottonwoods, willowve, walnuts near river and
road. About 2 mi. on we all (3) saw 2 Icaroptera by roadside. To W.
mainly desert scrub; the mixel with dry grassland. To E., cope by a
river & grassland began. About 6 mi. out, reached town of Los Lagos;
very ugly, with water drain down about 25' above highest level.
