C. Chihuahua, Mexico
wing tips; near-white bore tail). I & the team purchased supplies talked
with Davison, picked up Dave Christmas, who had flown down. Left
about 5 p.m. & drove N. to about 6 mi. N. of Km. 92, then turned
off on small sidetrack toward Laguna Quemilla, drove through mesquite
to grassland, & adobe house of Dr. Gutierrez (MV men had camped
there in previous years). Talked with the old man, who remembered Posell
well, & camped a few hundred yards S. of his crop field, in
mesquite. Lake shore about 1 mile to E. Saw Meadowlarks, thrush,
hoodedrun. George P. said saw Black-nachel Stilt, Yellowthroat, &
Black-crowned Night-Herons near lake; Large areas of Sporobolus
grass clumps, mainly brown. Toward lake, Distichlis increased
to pure stand. Various patches of Junce. Some slightly raised
& gravelly penetrable bare mounds of Diptisampter spiloforma,
to within 1/4 mile of shoreline.

26 June 1969. Windy night. Saw Killdeer, Sporobolus W. Meadowlark.
Many large Sporobolus clumps, mostly brown & dry, dominant cover. Patches of
Junce. Occas. grass mesquite. Dry flat playa - pass. Distichlis mixed in
Sporobolus, missing toward shore, & finally pure stand near shore, all green.
On lake, many coots - pelopes 100 in 1/2 mile. 2 Killdeer at shore. Red-winged
Blackbirds - 6 or so & 50 yds. apart in rushes, but not apparently stationed.
Desig ducks flew swan with 4 tiny feathered ducklings. Another with 8
smaller ducklings. 3 single small grebes; canopic. white sides, riding
high; Redcreps? W. Meadowlark - 4 atop fine points in 100' / the isletts
and on wings.
2 O'cullow, Western Kingbirds, 4, out & few others. Singing Red-winged Blackbird,
Vermilion Flycatcher. 1/6 small planted field, corn about 2' high. Saw
white-throated Swift flying among big cottonwoods. Near house,
Blue grackle, trim big cottonwood, Orchard Oriole. At least two
