C. Koford 13 Journal 24 June 1969 Sierra del Nido, Chihuahua, Mexico Ash-throated Flycatcher, W. Bluebird: Below, saw jay, dead fox in side, Upper Ramito Parquette ] almost caught it by hand. Saw Raven carrying food in bill. Red- tailed Hawk, C. Kingbird. On area of 2' tall Lupine, 20+ Meadow Lark. Meadow Lark - flock 20 to 30 on short grass bent going to down Mesteno, lower canyon. Also many Lack Sparrow . But Donal de Banos, then E./over Mononite Farms, 10' below; saw 1 to 3 C. Kingbirds attack Raven vigorously. Then down into Oso Canyon saw scrub Jays (2) in extreme heat. Near rock saw 1 Say Phoebe (clean road surface), white-throated Swift,/about 4 mi. down, pair of Karlgin. Quail worked off road. At top cliffs, saw 12+ turkey vulture, at least 2 perches (windy day)./Near Rinconera, 6 Brown-Legged Seabirds followed behind lawn fields. When drier area reached, saw Mockingbird, Brown Tanager. Saw C. Kingbird rest 15' upon isolated oak (G. Rands) nestling, + 10 more eggs). Arrived Campcuna camp about 7 p.m. George & Eike set up 30' but not across water trough among trees near cliff - by 2:30 they had nearly 100 birds (preserved in formalin), of several species, including flycatcher, myrtle, antrogon, fleeter, Cestrene. /Near Bonville. 25 June 1969. Windy night, clear morning. A few Cliff Swallows apparently starting nests on 50' cliff. Saw Mockingbird, C. Kingbird, Vermilion Flycatcher. Yesterday saw Blue Grosbeak up canyon about 1 mile & saw Ivory Dove at big cottonwood by adobe house up canyon. /We departed for Chihuahua. Saw Meadowlark near Cemetery, and 2 White-redled Ravens in yard near restaurant, atop fence posts. Occas. saw on Km. 92 2 or way to Chihuahua City. Saw burned area in pasture, but may have been accidental. Toward Chib., proportion of mosquitoes increased until nearly solid cover. About 20 mi.
