3 mi. N. of Campana, Sierra del Norte,
adjacent willow shrubs. Barn Swallow - occas. are flying over
canyon bottom; also Cliff Swallow, but no water evident. Bewick
Wren - saw short-tailed fledgling / Continued into old Campana campsite,
2 mi. from Estiguard, & talked w/ Lopez at adobe hut. No water
in creek saw one pubble, but a large spring of good water, & near
old campsite a cattle trough about 30' long + 3 ft. wide (2 fish
in it). This or Ranch Los Topicos, of Alfredo Portillo's P. Am tutor,

cottonwood, near pig corral, 10+ Brown-headed Cowbird. In area saw
W. Wood Peewee, Barn Swallow, Boboli, Mourning Dove, White-winged
Dove, white-throated Swift (5?). / C.N.
Bewick's nest, cup 20' up at edge
cranium ash, on 12" horiz. stub branch going out, tree about 30'; over dry
streambed near cliffs; nest next material, & bound around w/ spiderweb, it upper-
ed. / A silver nest about 100' distant - at 18' up, 5' in from tip horiz. branch,
in 35' green ash tree over dry streambed; made of twigs below, dry grass above,
& nomad visible with leaves (bird froze on edge nest). / Bewick's caporal
showed me rock cliff at side Noia Canyon, & said a large bear killed there
dast year about November! (one of the released ones?). / Area of cattle-
trough shaded, w. 30' cottonwood, tree willow, big blue oak, & mostly
ash. Small junipers in canyon + adjacent slope. Beside tree willow,
a shrub-willow, & small tree w/ leaves slender about 30 cm. long;
so various willows. / Saw a Rock Wren on ground under ash dry cliff; it
climbed swift up cliff (E.P. said it later fed young). / Nest of Kayeturi
Tuvogen - ? on, 12' up in small-leaved willow about 20' tall; placed
[? flushed at 30'. Net cup 4" diam. Contents?]
in foliage, apparently made of green dried forb & grass, at edge of
open sand and shrub-willow zone of flat wash, about 50 yds.
from W. spring. / George P. remained here, while Erik & Stuart to Chihuahua
