Journal
24 November 1968. Chihuahua, México
about a km. away, not at the level;
25 November 1968. Drove to C. Chihuahua, 77 mi. from gate to overhead welcome sign. Talked with Guillermo Gonzalez and brother Mario. Latter not a hunter but trying to push plan to develop wildlife resources in Chihuahua or paying basis, probably starting with goose hunting. (I think he had already suggested this to the new governor). Said farewells to Jose Damian (he had not questioned David Crites yet about bears). Stopped. Then started north, 50 miles to Rancho Experimental gate, and 22.9 more to railroad crossing (15.9 from km. 92 (La P.) restaurant). El Sues 23.5 beyond this RR crossing. Rain en route. I camped near Villa Ahumada in brush desert.
26 November 1968. On to Juarez and across border. Border inspection on Mexican side, though explained I had been camping in sierra. About 20 min. inspection on U.S. side, but no objection to bird skins or skins. Continued on to Los Oros, where met Ralph Platt, Charles Thacker and others.
27-29 November 1968. Rained, about 3" on ground at Los Oros.
I drove W. via Lordsburg, Phoenix, Kingman, Las Vegas,
Death Valley, Bishop, and Tahoe, and Bloomfield. Deserts
entering first cold at this season.
