Koford, C. 36 Journal 23 November 1968. Rancho Presidencia Chihuahua, Mexico of some, with much white in tails; both transparent wings. 24 November 1968. Again talked with Lorenzo Lino (sp?). He said many miners this area and Terrenater, and that they hunted much. He said C. de los Osos, a Terrenater, much traveled, and unlikely to have grizzlies. Went up road to 5 W toward Terrenater, tho said to be impassable near a lock/gate, + very bad away from W side. Lower part canyon direct work - many sparrow, Cyrulofia. Then open oak calling grassland. I flushed owl (orio?) from oak tree where down rested (CBK no. 3874). Occasional large rock antwops; saw rock squirrel. more. Continued to about 6 mi. from Rinon del Alamo Lodge, but still shot of ridge to Terrenater area. Mostly bluegrum grass. Ducks as one presa. Much more humid vegetation than near Lodge. Return- ed to R. del Alamo Lauren. 4.8 miles then to gate into La Presidencia; 3.3 mi to El Nido work, and 11.2 mi to Presidencia lodge. Windy today. Saw one small spidroms at edge road. Large flower dragspur. Returned key to Fortuno at Presidencia house; he said ranch had 46000 ha. and 3000 cattle. Then 7.2 mi. to highway. I drove across and entered road to Rancho El Alamo. Large mosquito brushers and tall dry weeds between along road to lake - Lake muddy. In distance saw hundreds of snow geese near shore and some flying. Ducks and coots scattered near close shore. I drove in to Los Vocos ranch, where camped. Talked again with Juan Escapliga (pronounced like "rc" instead of "pl," as he spelled it). Of the grizzly attack on bull, he said they heard bull roars in night; went in morning and found bull wounded, and trods on ground indicating bear had mounted bull with perfect stare and hind feet on ground.
