C. Koford 23 Journal Mexico 7 November 1968 Can' del Alamo, S. de N'da, Chihuahua, a time about 50' from me. This is open bunchgrass & pine needle ground / 1 mile up (NE fork of N fork) old bear dropping of mangeante; half formed still on pine needles, 100' from stream bed. 1225, 1.6 mi. up this branch, came to 2 mi. up fork, running water, clear, 2' wide. Went a, 3 mi. (about 12 mi. from camp), where saw high conifer ridges to N. Then turned back. Near (4 mile up) mouth this fork, dry mangeante-filled bear dropping; 50' from stream bed on green & needle flat. Beds near the sawmill flat, an apparent but small dear dropping - lilac'd, w. ocrn shells, but only 1" diameter; or grass under oak's near stream. Entered on to camp, arriving 1610, w. 25. 2 mi. a pedometer. / Most of canyons have old trails, wide, apparently used for logging. Almost no signs grazing within a few mile up Canyon from camp, the last trace (to Mexico?). Areas explored today are just over ridge to E. of Mesteno canyon above Colona. No trees (CBK No 3862) seen. / Took an Porangue this mor in 5 lie tops set among balance a day (S aspect) slope near camp. R. C. del Alamo 8 November 1968. Fri. Cold wind, & alto - cumulus 9/10. [Same as Lopez C. noted?] One of black bear & cubs about 8 yrs ago, not far N of ranch house. One of grizzly & 2 cubs, earlier, to E. He had hunted on ranch with Lopez Escalera but they had found no bears. / Light sprinkle, & started to clear 10 a.m. I set out to N. up C. Escondido, leaving 1015. Went about 3 mi., then into canyon bottom - shady, big oak, pine, rock walls close; but no water. Occurred flood 10-11 Novicos; one mule died & others. 1225, 5.3 mi. from camp (pedometer), canyon forked N and NE. I took N. fork to ridge top,
