Koford 20 Journal 7 August 1968. Nr. Primavera S. de Nido, Chihuahua chipmunk, ground squirrel, Camelophorus + Igelhauer. Many owes 1-2 am day, & many on ground some sites. Walked 80 min., to where red cliffs close to about 150 yds. A few pieces to 60' tall. less. Firewood gathering w. lumors. Many Hereford cattle. Return down canyon (with exploration farther up). | Then down back E. up Santa Clara canyon for 3.1 mi., to tributary from S. & man came to N., & camped (6200' indicated).| Departing 14:15, due & walked up road to 1/2 mile from tops, looking for tigrone + animal sign. A couple of good tributaries off to NW per with exploring, or former reports from near road (Damian, 3 yrs. ago). Many scrub jays, ground squirrel, in canyon. Saw one 4' Catiline in road; rather lothargic, & no inclination to strike whenlothed (the common chipmunk x x kind). Started down : C. mologus back down road 1630. Saw 1 quail edge road. At camp, heard scream (?) owl, caperwingbirds, at night. About 5 kucha passed during day. 8 August 1968. Left camp 10:30 & drove to Primavera. Saw morning dove road- course, en route. I km or about 8 miles to cattlegravel 1.6 mi. E. of Parity; down at last, indicated alt. 5150'. 9/10 cactus at now. Drove S. 6.8 mi. To La Campana gte of Agricultural Stn., & 2.0 mi. further to (locked) gate to "Sycamore" W. we were seeking road to enter close to Cerro Campana; age, etc. road to foot of we work, but prob. no trail thru. Carlsage said a trail up Toro Canyon, just S. of C. Campana. Inquired at one ranch; then 5. again to Rancho Herrodora (Oscar rd. Ranch has Vaco) Puey, but never there), which named La Campana error. Then to Ranch 45 (exp. To rd.) to inquire of vagrants, who were loading Bayral cattle thru. Then drove to Rancho Arco Lito, S. of Parita a few mi. Owner (Puey) absent, but one man accompanied us to next ranch S. (Javier Terraza ?), where we obtained permission to use road to foot of Canyon Machete, where old trail led up to top.
