Top S. del Nido, Chihuahua, Mexico
pigeon, fledgling Allos Martens near for 205°. On bush, grass, or rocks,
hundreds of red scarified beetles w. 6" black sand spots - why only on high
points? Took bodehances - highest peak still to E. We headed for this: "Chiripin"
and mangante slopes; now berries ripe some sites. On up ridge - rock formations,
time 1150
pine - needle flats, climb to the apparent highest peak or rim (9900' incl.).
Fine view all around - ridg of rim of pine forest to E. & S. Canyon w/n rocks. A
Peregrine
Falcon
fajjir. Peregrine soared by cliffs at close range. Good views toward C. de la
Madre. Bandtails, parrots. Found no rare can (Acanth) at upper level.
Back to camp, getting into very canyon area (4 hours as home). Bird had red
tent set up; a very large gray hummingbird w. short white tip's tail had been
visiting the tent during day. No rain. Heard no caravine or mice at night.
5 August 1960. No rain night. 3/10 cumulus morning. Left 0730 to explore to W.
near rim. Ascented 9500' (inclined) peak on rim, when five miles to N. & W. over rim
area to Mesa de los Venados. (Trail up from Rock Walls must get top this time).
More of Allos Martens close, 250° about 1 km. Took photos. More "Lady Bugs" live.
Parrots, Bandtails, bluebirds, junco, sheep. Once I loathed my predator cell;
there was scent behind me & a ? deer started to point 50 yds. away &
looked about nervously. At another foot she came 10 yds. closer - looking
for hidden form? Much country to explore in rim area. We descended to camp &
departed 1150 for ranch deltos . 9/10 cumulus. About 1 p.m. found sugar pine
cave fresh delicacy, now. Martens R. Arrived C. del Alamo camp 1710. Bats
flew close & caprimulgids called in evening.
6 August 1968. Due at Marta Negrin ranch, so left C. del Alamo. To 51
stre, then W, S. & N., E W. to hd of canyon down to La Panita. On plain
high
saw one burrowing lande. Mammante fields ended and restored valor
started about 6 mi. before reaching collegiate & start descent. Rocky,
cliffs, scrubby oak trees. About 1 mile down (of 8½ to Primavera), saw
