departed on foot at 0700, up canyon (de los Alamos) for 30 min., to south bank up head of A. del Alamo (50 min.). Now apparent wolf trail in sand or way. We ascend ed old logging road for 15 min. to pool, then up steep slope (rocky, brush, cliffs)

to W. to top, & soon came to barbed wire fence. From this, looked N. atop mangan - (9700' indicated elev.) [prob. 8000' or 1455'] its ridge; / Turkey calls prod., P.P. up to 6" umbe in series. At one point sugar pini came in canyon saw many old trees of aguiriel-color cover (arbolito). 0755, foot of turn N. up E. del Alamo. Turkey calls; Steller g Jays; We heard and saw a wolf for 1/2 hr., from ridge (much low manganite). On return of cliff saw 2 chipmunks. Going N. or ridge, entered pines 0935. Also moderate tree w. leaves, 100mm. long. The 3 kinds of pine present white (Sugar p. in canyon only). Brush grass about 400mm. tall, & green (no new ligdon flowers). Jumped 3 whitetails (de probato call caused sternligone to flee). Junipers (redskin, chestnut both) common. Chipmunks on fallen logs. Badgers diggings. Mod. wind (5 lto. est.), cirrus clouds & 4/10 cumu- lus. Much low Centaur (?) especially in cut-over area. (Baeza said cut about 15 yrs. ago). / 1020, flushed one quail at 10 yds.; it hit ground after 10 yd. flight; found no nest. Grass & centaur (?) are [prob 8000']
1030, atten. 9100', walked 060° Lupine in bloom./1040, hit good trail [descends N. into A. de las Animas] on ridge (rocks piled at side), almost a road. At top cliffs of array to NW (Los Arimas?), heard & saw 7 parrots, in groups; flew close over us noisily, showing yellow bands under wings. (lectorbrow eyes)./Saw lightning-struck pine; 8" branch down; spiral split up trunk, much bark off; / Flushed 3 whitailed deer. / 9/10 cumulus increasing. Went 135° to head of Ojo de los Venados. Saw red & violet-green swallow in pines (house wron) woods, & small brown worm (trematulum?) in barkpile. 1200, at pass al (prob. 8500')
less O. delos V., 9300' indicated. Descended slowly. Stems running in parts.
1310, area of water & feed trough, where met Baeza. Here 8400'; large oak,
