C. Koford 12 Journal 16 February 1962 Delhi, India Siam - starchy fruit with hard thin shell. Cooked if green. Weights taken in 5 lb. bamboo cage. Animals held a few days to 1 mo., about 2 wks. average. Shipping cages of 1/2" stecco wire, metal feeding & watering tray each end, metal tray below. Wt. cage 8 kilos. 36" x 24" x 18" size. Cage holds 10 4-6 lb. makuas, 8 6-8 lbs. Ends & lower half of sides of plywood. | Patterson has a farm at Huahin, 4 hrs. from Bangkok on gulf of Siam. Near famous golf club. Gymnolugus makau, mostly from S. Thailand (some from Theres sold to British, Scandinavia. | There was also a cooperating gor farm about 10 miles from Kuda Lempur. | In evening we took train from Delhi to Kanpur, SW of Lucknow. Amad and Dhavan accompanied me. 17 February 1962. Arrived 6 a.m. Kanpur. Their man then said trapping planned for area about 150 miles to NNW, start-ing next morning. Green rice, & mac tree, beans. Many birds in garden of hotel, and I saw one mongoose there. Light rain and rain about 8 a.m. | About 10 a.m. went for drive to look for makaua or outskirts Kanpur. One group in open yard and an adjacent house. 3 ad. of of, 5 ad. ff (at least 3 pregnant) and 2 yrld. One & lost leg. bleeding. Yrld. showed scars marks from food. 10+ maku ate food thrown out for makaua. Health good, apparently. No intermediate age classes. Man calls ba-ba-ha as feeds a makau gone. | At another site by river bank, where clothing placed & several holy men, we feed about 15! There included but one ad. of, 8 ad. ff, 3 yrld, 4 minn. Photographed. Other small groups in this area. One
