Koford Journal 18 September 1967. TO Lima, Peru. Barbetia singing in eucalyptus area. Very much greener now here than in early July. Doves and Pyrocephalus common. Below station above highway, saw Thriceros in flight displays and on ground, and collected one. Occasional flight sheathbird overhead. Desiltes common (ROH catalog). We left in afternoon and drove to Lima. (Rear wheel gears noisy and needing repairs.) Stayed again at Casa Humboldt. Lima; to San Francisco, Calif. 19-25 September 1967. Labeled and packed specimens. Visited Museo "Javier Prado," where Koepeke's worked. Car repair delayed for lock replacement parts. Left equipment in garage of Jorge Milling, and arranged for him to get car and store it in parking yard on Av. Schell near Av. de la Republica, Miraflores. Departed from airport midnight of 25 Sept. on Braniff airlines for SFO via Miami. On this route we could take 30 kilos each, so specimens accompanied us. Two Parulmys taken by McCollum and large live lizards by Huey had arrived previously in California. For all 4600 of us, nearly 1000 specimens, of which about 600 birds and mammals. My own catalog numbers ran from 3037 to 3318 for the trip. Huey took the herpetological specimens to Univ. Texas, Austin, where he will work on identifications. See specimen catalog for additional notes on habitat of specimens and size and sex conditions of birds. End of Peru trip, summer 1967 -
