Koford, C. Journal (8500' ft.) Peru 10 September 1967 1 km N. 12 km E Paricoto, Dpto. Ancash, Cool night, to 50°F. Morning catch comprised 14 more animals including 1 Marmosa, 2 P. magister, 1 Oryzomya, + rest Phyllotis andrion. Put up specimens and prepared to depart. Temp. range here has been 48°-81°F. Departed 3 p.m. and drove uphill to E., passing small store 6 km. from camp. Climbed to small town (my ruin, when dirt road took off toward Pira (mines). Camped about 5 km. beyond town, near bromeliad-covered cliffs in shady canyon bottom. Ferns + thick grass + shrubs near stream - thither, many damp sites. Saw dippers in stream. I set 35 traps near the stream and up adjacent bunchgrass slope, none in dry sites. Tinco, 12000 ft., Dpto. Ancash 11 September 1967. Min. temp. 48 F. My traps held 10 Abrothrix boliviensis (?) and 16 Phyllotis andrion (?). Put up mice. Then ascended dry grassy hill, partly cultivated and with occasional rock walls, toward cliffs and talus slide to S. - about 45 min. climb, and 500'+ above camp. Took photos. Set 30 snaptraps near bushes, rock walls, rocks. Tinco, to Callan, Dpto. Ancash 12 September 1967. About 7 of my traps taken by local Indians (10 gone; I got 3 back from them). No mice taken in highest talus slopes (reported to be mirachos there). Traps held 3 Abrothrix boliviensis, 7 Phyllotis andrion (?) and 1 P. magister (by rock wall in grass, w. no shrubs near). Saw mountain scarers. Collected Patagona on high slope (rocks + shrubs), + big flycatcher on rock wall in (CK 3284) grassland. Last night heard many owls (Bubo?) in the
