& mice. Mockingbirds, doves, quail, deer, geotitan common. As night

2 September 1967. Made live traps (about 25) and looked for mouse
sign. Set live traps for Bandanus gerbillum. I set 8 near camps,
live brush
mostly along brush fence of cypress and dead mariguate brush, where
loose sand accumulated. /I drove to Morrupo, a poor adobe town, for
dinner and met 12-yr. old boy who showed me 3 cat snakes in a
bottle (said John locally). He said there were camels in trees too, &
showed me a dark room in adobe house when the sun was 10- o'clock.
I collected 2 ad.+ 2 mm., Carolis (?) in same room as (Desmodium).
Then being from bamboo & beam ceiling in 12' x 12' adobe room w.

3 September 1967. My 8 live traps held 2 live P. gerbillum. One
(smaller) became torpid in car-top, but revived when warmed. Both
now
took milk readily from dropper, lapping fast w. pause holding tips.
These turned over to McCallum for transport to Berkeley. Me C. and
Hamilton took 0 in their 11+ live traps each, but H. took 3 P. gerbillum
in snap-traps (2 in same trap, checked last eve). Put up mice
and rats. Honey and McCallum departed by colectivo for Chiclayo to
take bus to Lerma and return to Colfo. /I set 5 live traps near
camps + 10 snap traps, all along old brush fence in sandy
ground. Hamilton tended 20+ set in sand hills (probably most
natural site), where fair number mouse (+ foot-tracks). Mouse
