Nr. Cerro Illescas, Dpto. Piura,
side (6/10) and sand to leeward. 27 km., hummocks w. shrubs and
occas., small dunes. 33 km., rocks in strata and larger mesquite;

s-down we saw 3 scolopacids walking on desolate flat. Spent 1/2 hr.
searching for Cueva Cueva de las Lencas, when said to be many late.

Then to Bayovar, where stayed in colonias & had good meal with the
small staff (3 men). Set no traps. Cold & dark here today, w. 15 kt. wind
Nr. Bayovar Dpto. Piura.
21 July 1967. Friday. Reorganized gear. Hamilton shots Pedregas, &
some of them seemed to be counting. Cluster of 100+ red cuds on sand
on beach. Net caught some grosbeaks, tow doves, mockingbirds, wail-
ens, geosittors, Passer s., turkey + black vultures. We drove 13 km. to
East 25.
wateh well at foot rocky quebrada & set traps there. Returned to
Bayovar, and I set 25 traps in shrubs in sand about 2 km. away,
where many good trochis, copei lizards, & small mesquite. At water area set
25 under rock ledges where no plants but many cope (?) scale. Overcast
and windy & cold all day, occasionally lightening, but clear by 8 p.m.
and full moon.

Overcast morning. Traps in mesquite copei lizards
H. garbillus
held 1 mouse (10gm. o, t. ?, min., discarded, the real mouse.) but
a few traps spring & foot trochis alongside. Traps along removal of
deresinii
well also held 5, but Mr. Collins got a fine Phylletis in lower
rocks, nothing new broken in bottom of draw. About 4 km. SE
of Bayovar, caught 1 min. or fox & shot hummingbird + coecrib (?)
also found a coral snake, which Harry collected, about 10 a.m. Much warm-
er today and brighten sky. Left 25 traps out in brush on sand & caught
3 Armeus during the day (out bait). Boys set up net same area and took
several Cross grosbeaks. Afternoon I saw fishermen diving in
Cheloni's myddi's
spec turtles a few at a time on small log rafts, about 24 in all.
