one possible P. mojistan, large w. faint bluffy chest spot (+ plain ear?)
(?) than P. darwini.
Discarded P. darwini, 26 gps., 4 emb., c.-R 8mm. (coll.
McC.). Seuil P. darwini taken by McC and Hey, & some put ups. We
put up specimens, then moved down road, passing through
(as Tinco)
some bromeliads on cliffs area, rock grass tola mixture. The
narrow valley & babilations made finding camping spot difficult.
about 8500 ft.

Camped at 9000' by road on N slope. Brusby area, some short grass,
remnants very old rock walls, dry + poor looking the cattle looked
healthy. Many hummingbirds, zonotishia, finjillids, & others. Saw
Nothoprocta sp.
tinamoues. Arrived 1630 and set traps. I set 26 traps upslope
from road in brush & rocks, tho little sign. Much use by
cattle & people working/ Pira 8000ft.

11 July 1967. My 26 traps held 13 animals, & other spring or pulled
out, so rich in small mammals. Mine included a Marmosa &
McC. and
Oryzomya. We put up specimens. Hamilton Hey had P.darwini?
in traps. They got many frogs last night near irrigation ditch.
In afternoon the boys put up net and also shot birds. At least
4 kinds hummingbirds present, and doves, turdids, finches-very
rich tho poor looking vegetation. Hamilton shot a young tinamou,
Nothoprocta pentlandi & saw adult with small young. I found
nest of hummer w/ 2 nestlings. In evening I drove 5 km. up (elw. 8500' 9000' ft)
road and set 28 traps near small stream on dry grass-
rock-cerous hillslope. Clear night again.
12 July 1967. Clear night. No lots in 1 net set. Traps held 9
animals, incl. 2 akodon, 1 marmosa (imm.), 2 small mice, & Phyllostis
darwinii?! Seuil traps in damp area reeds & shrubs spring, as by
8500ft.
