Koford 2 Journal 28 June 1967 Lina, Peru Jorge Milley, Universal Travels, our mail receiver and business adviser. Exchanged money (about 26/$1) and shopped, starting to look for a field car. New Ford Panel was about 5/100 000 - about 2x price in U.S. 29 June 1967. We rented small car from Milley and drove toward Chosica. Collected a few lizards on S. side road near Pampa. Drove up a high rocky hill being developed in Inca style into a residential park. Tillandsia hills present but contained few vertebrates. Many birds around cotton fields, including a black form of vermilion flycatcher. 30 June 1967. More leg work in Lima. Purchased maps at Inst. Geogr. Militar, located at old Lanatambo airport at head Av. Corpus, near big Sears store at San Isidro (Av. de la Republica). Started gun permit negotiations at CAMEC, also old at airport building. Initiated purchase of 1963 VW panel truck. 1 July 1967. More shopping and preparations. Then (mostly sandy desert area) in Milley's little Rambler, we drove N. on Pan American Hwy. to about km 88, then island w. Sayan-Churin road to km. 10 1/2 then on dirt road to NW to dry side (1.2km) (9 km) Lomas de Pachay of coastal hills. Granite boulders, heavy use Ivy roots, clumps of cactus-type cacti, and little other vegetation. Very dry aspect. We had not yet received our shipment of eqpt. from U.S., but we had local materials so...we set out [Tow, left peak ->; right peak ->]
