20 February 1964 To Santa Cruz, Galapagos/s showed no apparent bath removal since my early Feb. visit.
21 February 1964. Goat horns; one & from Barr. showed larger dist. lactic rings than those from Wood, but said or of from B. showed about = dist. to Wood specimens. / Rodry - guiz. of Guayquil says dried fish about 6-7 s. 1lb. before Easter, but pen price rest of ym. He said beef 2 s. 1lb. in San Cristol, vs. 8 reales (30 centavos) in Santa Cruz. Mr. Guayguil, wild goats which are valued; hide worth little. He confirmed that Galapagos agave produces all grown, & better, mr. Guayguil; only fish prod. better here (& larger). In D., whole langosta sold, head even preferred by some, (the only tail saved in Dolos). / Forest Niles said about talk 10-15,000 lbs. per mo. of langostas taken to freeze per; there via Villanil to Guayquil.
22 February 1964. Departed 10:30 a.m. & drove up old trail to Bella Vista and Villanie (= Mrs. Homemana's farm), to stay 2 nights. about 2 1/2 hrs. drive up. In Bella Vista area a found small store, & probably 200 or more people in vicinity. Ground nearly flat here, w. few rocks, compared to slopes. Banana, sugarcane, atoy, & avocado, coffee in evidence. Nilium lots lots ridges common. People healthy, happy, & apparently have usual Latin & community life. A church too, &. Cheese widely scattered. / Homemana a new down farm, with coffee, avocado, fruit trees - but poorly laid out. Mrs. H. (Norwegian), then since 1926; said husband impractical. Mary lives in Denmark & Norwegian, in 2 story wooden house, sleeping 7 in addition to Mrs. H., son Sigurd, & a helper. Visit to Orcas & Tortuga Bay. In area,
