Koford Journal 19 February 1964 Hood Isl., Galapagos Is. Densely nesting zone, many dead short-cropped bunches of grass, as if once well tufted. The grey-green low shrub predom- inated browned much, nor the sticking sp. about 3' tall nor the oval- leaved one 5' (much algae or stems). Reduction of Cryptoc. prominent on apparent elevation vestiguosa on top cliff. / Patrol boat arrived from Floreana about 2 p.m., with 7 of our group. They saw no goats on F, but donkeys common & unutilized. Said to be wild dogs, too. Sealasia then appear. Decided to run coast 5. of black beach. About 40 people (10 of them Wettern) live on Floreana. Three men from patrol boat caught big hand 2 & ed. goats Docks & took them to boat alive. Details in captivity, but poor flesh. They said would let them feed on Cryptoc. on Santa Cruz to fatten for killing. On previous trips they had caught one. How do they run down goats on this rough ground? One of men said many in area old radar station, & that brown during "invierno" (= Dec.). Later, D. Brown said he saw many small young during dept. visit. / The short-browned peepod-smelling shrub also in densely nesting area; not Cten. 20 February 1964. Left 5:30 a.m. on patrol boat for Barrington & Acud. Bay; 14 of G.I.S.P. group aboard. / Calm weather, few waves; wind 5 late. Arr. Barrington 0930 & went ashore. Cryptoc., Maytenus, browned up to 3' only (lower than Hood). Found Cteno bushes about 3' with few leaves, & some 10' with leaves at top; upper- cutly not high palatability. Took I picked up a few goat horns; they showed "annelstone" similar to those on Hood. Fallen opuntia here destroyed than on Hood, upper.; one fallen
