S. and W. to a high summit close tuff cliffs. In bottom down, long reeds flowered forl proud to have root (a dried stalk) 10 mm. down. Also a fine green grass in patches com- ens among rocks of wash. A coarse bunch grass cropped to 3" and all dead. / Bursera + yellow V flowered tree to 15' tall, often with new leaves upper parts; strong odor of Bursera may protect it from goats; bleeds where injured. Green-new smelling shrub cropped low. / 1045, on a 5-10% fairly rocky slope about 1 mile (over 2 ridges) S. of camp, 5 goats, appear. all black. (Last eve, 5:30 p.m., On new gp. 3 black, + another 2 brown 1 black, about 200 yds. SW of camp.) Higher hill of 3rd. ridge S. of camp, covers about 6' deep + 6' high in tuff; there sleeping goat stomach, + many bones in cave + nearby. Should noting places? / During day while away from camp area I counted unwashed (no anything color) skulls. Of 29 counted, 2 imm. and 6 kid (<1 yr old), rest adult - appear to be at least 10 ?, 7 ?, other ?, judged by size + horns. / Of living animals, saw 1 bl. 2 brown od., 2 bl., 1 bl., 2 bl. +? 2 br. or or, 1 bl. ?, 1 bl. imm., 4 bl. ad., 2 bl. 3 brown od. (Onv - possibly all or or), 1 bl. 2 brown (in camp again; killed the brown one, or). All odds. except as noted - 17 black + 9 brown, + black imm. / Shot one chestnut brown, black fore, head, midl. stripe, ant. fee & hindlegs, anterior shoulder, + lateral abdomen. Horn along wide curve, 47 mm. long from crown. Distl 83mm. Length 122 cm; tail 12 cm. Beard 5" long, hind ft. 26 1/2 cm.
