Koford Journal 28 January 1964. Academy Bay, Indefatigable Is. Dives says illegal to fish within 1 mi. town (?) . David Balfour & local boy Ralph later told me the big lobster boat in the Forebay, the shipping boat the Vilanel. Ralph said up to 9 aucus/lb. paid for tails; formerly 5. Due of de freezing plant an outsider, -aro. 29 January 1964. To Barrington Island, Galapagos Departed 0740 on Balfour's ketch Lucent for Barrington. Caught with trolling line 1 dolphin about 4c way over; looked & lost another. Ralph said about 10 boats, mostly from Acos. Bay but some from Week Bay, fish for grouper, eap. Now to eastn. but about 5000 lbs./hr. each. Salted in barrels; rinsed, dried, & sent to Longyogrid. Live fishing. Mr. Barrington we saw 2 boats fishing; about 6 men a boat with hand lines or boat drifted beam to leeward. Later these boats came into bay of Barrington, cut & salted their fish. They said fishing poor. | We saw 2 herders over & 2 foote on Barrington before landing. Cliffs of stelfield their lava; much opentess over top. Small harbor very clear water & 2 see hair, small sand breaks with many sea lions. One will study the seals. Ith goats. Briefskin dive showed some langsters in boulder tangle at bay edge of inlet at month bay. Other fishes similar to Indefatigable area. No mangroves, but some green bushes near shore. Burens & other shrubs mostly mottly gray & leafless. | Boat droppings & trash everywhere, & several skeleton goats in bay area. About 1730 I surveyed hillside & saw 7 goats, all adults, not over 2 in groups. All black or brown. Thony low green brush nr. shore little cropped, "mangaito" level lush browse line at 3'; & Cryptocarpus eaten to near leaflessness wherever it grew. | Fisherman came to beach to seine for bait; sea line almost caught in net - was in loop but jumped.
