Koford Journal 25 January 1964. La Fe, Indefatigable Is. 2 vertical sector pde. Yellow-walled Myrmechm-type fly-catcher. W saw 2 goofy black & brown, mid morning. Walked back to shore landing & spent night; sprinkle of rain and mosquitoes. 26 January 1964. Skin diving at La Fe. Collected marine algae. Saw several sharks with [illegible] tail & white type 2 (cut) dorsal fins, are about 6' long. Schools various fish. Saw 12+ larger in 1 hr. & took 3. They are as wary & fast as the Puerto Rican variety. Some coral heads on rocks, with one giant five grained white sand. Balfour arrived, & we returned via outboard to C Darwin station, arriving 12:15 p.m. | Allyn Smith said he saw a low coyote-like dog not far from town. | At La Fe, Marguerite Browne dive at about 6' in all species, finding Cryptocarpus vines in trees. 27 January 1964. In afternoon walked up "old trail" toward Buena Vista for 1¼ hrs. Increased vegetation after short rise. Trail one hour wide & rough with boulders in soil & mud; rather hard walking. Buena Vista said to be ½ mi. from Norman's ranch, which is in rather lush area. Tatoro area about 1 hr. E. then 3 N. of Normano (Dr. Forbig). No rain at Dead Bay today. 28 January 1964. Group left for Town & Culpepper-Warren trips. Bad Darwin on larger boats at Dead Bay. About 11000 lbs, tails per mo. per boat (6 men). One big boat has 30 men. Fishermen get 7 cents/lb. (18 to $1). About 100 employed total. Laid when taken; then to freezing plant at Dead Bay, & by ship to Guayaquil. Said tunnel with poor or too much repair. Tails ineffective. Tails ½ to 1 lb. each.
