Journal - Galapagos
20 January 1964.
Academy Bay, indefatigable
shoalier. Water clear at 500+ ft. dull morning, rising & breezing
midday. The further rummers + tame, as advertised; yellow warbler
+ mocking bird common. Some finches mating. No toucan seen. Both
some flies, & some mosquitoes circling. A brief sprinkle in night.
21 January 1964. Official dedication of Charles Darwin station,
with 2 members govt junta of Ecuador present. Many speeches, much
confusion. Talked with Bud Davies, - Roth, Argemeyer, Alf Kastelan,
about farming, fishing, economics.
22 January 1964. Most of visitors left, leaving only scientists. Went
shin diving near station; saw 3 kinds sea anemone, sea cucumbers,
bottle stars, hood rayed starfish, many fish similar to Puerto
Rico - pomacentridae, sparet fish, surgeon fish, butterfly fish.
Took langusta, about 4 lbs.
23 January 1964. Helped with local fish & crustaceata collect-
ing.
