C. Ko ford 49 Journal 26 March 1962. Delhi, India game birds for introduction into U.S. Good source info on much of India and problems travel, shipping, importing. Much difficulty with petty harassment by officials. I "Johnny" arrived from Kt Jogodhri area with only 9 monkeys. He reported groups small, about 7 in bunch, + that area of several groups visited. Dayta reported sending monkeys from near Calcutta. [Some] to be shipped given sulpha drug starting Mar. 25. Other will have for at least one day before shipment. I again noted caged specimens on shelves (two wood frames of cages). Also the sorting cage seemed newer to have been cleaned + was also cabled. I again visited M.S. Rai + was given two pale monkeys (0707, about 1 1/2 yrs. old). He said they have trapping permit in a large area of foothills near Kamrogan, + are not dependent on local contractors. The older Rai said his men reported animals being taken from Mailani area to Tonakpur area to sell or T. monkeys. To Zurich, Switz. 28 March 1962. Departed 0215 on PAA for Tehran, Tehran, Istanbul, Rome. Then Amman to Geneva & Zur- ich. Beautiful flight up coast of Italy + thru alps, passing close to Mt. Blanc. 30 March 1962. Visited Prof. Adolph Schultzy at Anthrop. Inst. He is to retire in a few weeks. He said that Hans Kummer & co-workers had studied Hanadyean baboon (4 gelada) in Africa, + had found characteristics con- siderably different than in baboons studies by [illegible] George & Washburn. Visited Prof. Heinz Hediger at Zurich Zoo. They
