in one square mile (in air). about 250 taken in nets -
mostly B. disparidenis, but also P.d. pakiri and P.d. indicus.
These banded in evening, + released. / Ali friendly energetic
small man about 60 yrs. - a self-made ornithologist, and
perhaps
the only one in India (or save Biswas at Calcutta). / We
saw one nilgai and one black buck on the preserve. Spotted deer
water
also present. But buffalo competition probably hard on there. Fair
area for study of various species, especially water birds. We
ergalensis
came on one group of 40+ byps feeding on a carcass dry
road. They seemed totally unafraid of car. Several fulvous
mipad with the larger bengalensis, + a few Neophron. But
no Torgo, though there were common in the sky. Drongo,
sunbirds, drillulbs, green pigeons, parakeets, & other common.
26 March 1962. Completed bird banding. Walked about to
observe birds & area. Departed on afternoon train for
New Delhi, arriving about 1930. New Delhi
