M. Koford 1951 Vicugna p. 4 Nov. 11 Huaylcarco, 52 mi. ENE Arequipa, 15000', Opto. Arequipa I missed. Some of ?? young of 8 walked into stream. At least ? adults & one y. laid down, then shook. One adult repeated this at least 4 times, 1 young 6 times. Two, or maybe 3, young defecated immediately on entering water. One adult also. 11:05 one adult lay down. 11:08 this one up, 2 others down (1 young ? ->?) up again almost immediately. 11:10 one adult down. Meanwhile, at 11:00 fox came back again by the group of 6. Again at least one squealed and this time 2 ?? as well as the -> followed it with tails raised until it passed them. It lay down once and urinated once while they were doing this. 11:15 all standing again in group of 8, as also in groups of 5 & 6. 11:20 group of 8: one young approached one adult with tail up, adult laced back ears & young retreated, this repeated. 11:25: One young lay down for about 3 minutes. 11:30 All still grazing in all 3 groups (except -> of 6 out of sight up canyon). 11:45 8 & 5 still the same, all of 6 out of sight up canyon. A few others still in sight on Top of ridge above 5', -> of 5 watching them. Watched one of young in 8 defecate & urinate - this one a ?.
