M. Koford 1951 Vicugna Peru Nov. 11 Huaylasco, 52 mi. ENE Arequipa, 15000', Dpto. Arequipa at 9:10 am drove from camp to K 38. Saw 2 groups of 5 on left near K 37 and one of about 11 just before K 38 on left. Parked beyond K 38 on right. Group of (6?) in left canyon and group of (3?) on right slope of right canyon. E.138.2 Draw Uphill from them group of 4. or of 8 at 9:20 returning from direction of 6. One of 6 giving alarm squeal. Fox walking right into midst of 6 ignoring them. Vicuñas moved uphill out of its way while I walked around it with tail up. Fox walked on, urinated on rock, I followed about 200 yd., then returned. 9:25 at least 10 appearing over ridge above 4, then most disappeared again behind ridge. Group of 4 is 5 - # 9:30 to 10:30 - no lying down in groups of 6, 8, or 5. 10:15 - 8 moved 200 ft. to graze by stream. 10:30 Fox came back by 6 and up into rocks, again passing (in opposite direction) right by where they grazed. Again they (at least 2) squealed and at first, led by I, moved toward fox. When it got close all ran a short way away. As it passed, I ran close to it but it still ignored him and he didn't follow. 10:45 still no lying down. Some chasing among 6 whel
