Vicugna
Aug 6
8 mi. SSW Kimbani, 15000', Dpto. Puno
at 8:00 A M B group near NE end of S ridge,
(4)
all grazing. 8:15 Carl drove out and
> started walking uphill, ?? followed.
> defecated & urinated. All walked west,
> paused at top of ridge and ?? grazed,
then all walked on, keeping near top of
ridge until they got up to rocky part,
there disappeared from my view (from
house) but still on this side of ridge
and presumably in upper part of their
territory. This at 8:30. At same time
two alpacas appeared by big rock
below house from up canyon.
Movement and roundabout route of
vicuñas could be explained by alpacas
in their territory.
Aug 7
12:30 about 35 on hill south of house.
Zono one from near corral SE of house
chased them all over the hill. 4 B's were
by big rock below house some time before
noon today. 6 A's were by house yesterday
afternoon. 1:45 A's by house again.
Big bunch is some place up hill again. Zono
one by corral again chased them over hill.
3:15 Big bunch - 40 by count this time - came
over again and grazed 150 yd SE of house.
One which chased them now not in sight.
