September 14, 1951
Aricoma, 1500', Ooto, Puno.
10:30 a.m. Returned to house. Mary ill today. Snow
max temp. 48 1/2°C.
+ rain + overcast in afternoon; rain came about 3:30.
September 15, 1951. Min. temp. -2°C. 7/10 cumulus + cirro-
cumulus at 7 a.m. 7/10 cumulus by 11 a.m. Saw 3 condors. Shot
2 teal on W. de Mdo. (15500 ft). Flushed 2 pairs above w. de
Mdo. In afternoon shot a cast (07, 1400 gms., tested
11x5, slight fat - track saved), 1 shaveler (spec. cat.),
two Crecs. The teal were 07, 425 gms., mod. fat,
fates 21x10 (saved); and ?, 400 gms., mod. fat,
largest scutum 4 mm. Put up spatula + Fulvia for skeleton;
all others (saved) gave teal & crecs). No rain or snow today but
heavy overcast in afternoon. Max temp. 13°C. Moon full a a
day past. Saw a ? at Lorenzo by Ford today.
September 16, 1951. Min. temp. -4°C. At 10 a.m., 7/10 cumulus
clouds. Drove slow via Crucero towards Juliois. About
halfway to Dos dom kill from Aricoma to Crucero saw about
10 paraguato. Marsh larks near Crucero, + burnowig auk.
Bonds near Pomas had yellow-top, glory-thin, gallinule,
Anas, Nycticorax (50+). Stopped at Palmera and talked
with Jesus Orellano, guermies of manganese mine 33
km. up the hills. Roberts Dammet, a german, was the
other half of the group. but was not present. Orellano said
they were seen 2 huanceros on road to their mine (33
km. to N) and he showed me skin of huancero he
had shot next to road. He said 6 or 7 were present +
all for time as llamas. He said they did not mix
with the llamas. No tinamous in that area according
