C. Koford 109 Journal August 27, 1951 Aricoma, 15000', Dpto. Puno, Peru. of stock (100+) mean house in morning. 3/10 to 9/10 overcast all day. Max. temp. 10°C. today. Ground in cattle area group 50% to 100% snow covered, covering least on slopes toward sun. Saw one falcon. August 28, 1951. Min. temp. -4°C. last night 7 a.m., 9/10 cirro and alto-stratus. Later all stratus & remained rest of day. Fog about 5 p.m. Max. temps. during days 9°C. Stock in SE Canyon & near house during day. Watched 2 groups 5 vicuñas at 7 to 12 m. Set 43 traps near cliffs, rocks & grass in comparatively damp area near bottom of SE canyon. August 29, 1951. Min. temp. -3°C. last night. At 7 a.m., 9/10 mod-thick cirro-stratus overcast. Lowered to stratus us about noon. Traps held 4 A. jelskii, 1 P. sublimis. Set more traps in grass & near rocks, 1 to 1½ miles S. of house, so 68 total. Saw 2 condors. Saw a fox. Buteo-like hawks squaled at me near cliffs as if nest there. Returned to house 1 p.m. & prepared spec- imens. Fog about 4:30 p.m. A quail-winged teal I shot Aug. 26 at Calacala, about 12500' had tester 35 X 20! Sheep + llamas still in SE Canyon. Max. temp. 10½°C. August 30, 1951. Min. temp last night -3°C. Cirrus clouds early morning. 1/10 cumulus & fair breeze up canyon at noon. Stock in SE Canyon. Traps held 7 P. darwini (discards). Shot a large buteo-like hawk and a muriciopiscola. Return- ed to house & prepared specimens. Temp. max. +8°C. August 31, 1951. Temp. min. -5°C. Alto-cumulus clouds
