Dpto. Puno, Peru-
August 24, 1951. Hda. Colocola, nr. Putina, 13000',
poorwill nest, shot adult, + brought home 2 nestlings
(11+17 gms.). Adult flushed at 7:30'. Nestlings were out
of nest site 2', in sunshine. In swining nestlings choped
in sack. Set 12 traps in grass near stream + rock well.
August 25, 1951. Nestlings cold to touch but agunmed when
warmed up. Hunted for porcodornices for 1 hour, 6:30-7:30
a.m., + shot 2 young (perdicija??) flushed separately from
tall dry grass on gentle slopes. Clear today. One Phylletus
in traps. Large fresh droppings O present in passage
in grass (genia piyo?). The Phylletus had pale gray belly,
brownish back - 230-119, 36 gms, vulva perf., uterine
long 25x1, nipple not elongatd. About 2 p.m. went to
N along hillside, flushed 4 or 5 tinnamous, shot a colom-
nij (shin) and perdicij (4, 215 gms., largest ovum 1 1/2 mm.)
at same location (tall grass, steep hillside, some old
cultivated parts). Saw 1 turkey vulture during day.
August 26, 1951 To Aricoma, 15000', Dpto. Puno, Peru.
8 7/10 alto camulus. At 7 a.m. departed from Colocola.
3 mile from house saw 2 teal (green winged) with 3
small downy young or small river. Putina road 12.4
miles from home. Putina 14.8 miles up the road.
We took road to Azangara but missed turn about
5 miles out of town (we took better road). 8.5
mile from Putina passed lake with casts resting
+ many ducks. 17.1 mile from P. crossed a sum-
mit. Saw post well built house building,
and wire-fenced (!) pasture. Sheep mainly; some
