C. Koford 104 Journal August 13, 1951 Ariconia, 15000'; Do to. Puno, Peru. -5 1/2°; +9 1/2°C. Clear; fair wind up canyon. Saw 2 humming birds & a condor. Rel. humidity < 20% in forenoon. August 14, 1951. Temps. -8°, + 9 1/2°C. Clear, dry. Rel. humid. <-20°- 17 1/2 % at 9 a.m. Set 55 traps on E. + NE-facing slopes ½ mile NW of Fox Lake, near rocks, clumps grass, bushes, Pyrenophyllum. Many vipers in that area. Shot 2 lizards on Fox Lake. Very much smoky hogs in afternoon. Moon about 2 days before full. Humidity 85% at 6 p.m. August 15, 1951. Temps. -6°; +10 1/2°C. Clean. The 55 traps held 1 σ A. jelshii, 6 Phylotis darwini (4♀, 2 ♂♂). Returned to house 11 a.m. On Fox Lake two small black crowned grebes building 1' wide water weed (gram) island 20' from shore near lake inlet. One peristed itself at edge island & other stepped on. Then they faced each other in water & shook heads side to side. Shot finish, perhaps 1 of flock left. Put up specimens. Smoky hogs in afternoon. August 16, 1951. Temps. -4 ½°; +10 ½°C. 6/10 cirro-stratus clouds 9 a.m. Traps held 2 Phylotis darwini ?, 5 A. jelshii. Put up 1 of each. Shot & put up 2 Thiseonus ?, 1 Cerilode ?. Llamas + sheep + 3 or more people moved into our area, the people housing in Rock shelter. One of the men said there were pumas in this area. Many ill with leucodex but recovering. Full moon. August 17, 1951 Temp. -4°; +11°C. 50% rel. hum. 8 a.m. Dogs of Indians destroyed 15½ of specimen skulls + skeletons. Traps held nothing. Yesterday, on dry rocky hillside of
