Nr. A Limbani, Opto. Peno, Peru.
rood from hut. Shot hummingbird, finch, & larger bird
at 11600', 1 mile air line S. Limbanie. At 13700', 4.7 miles
from hut, crossed 15' wide clear creek. 13300', 6 miles
from hut, 2nd first large house near road.
July 31, 1951. Temps. -5°, +10½°C. May watched local vicuna
11°
6-7 a.m. Put up some specimens, then drove to traps at 14000'

level. Caught 2 B. pictus (dried & 1 in M.K. catalog). The 13750'
trap line held 1 Chinchilla (M.K.91053), 1 Neotoma (M.K.91054).
Set additional traps in lower line so 36 in all in their great
large (10') granite boulders. Shot 2 vicunas. Returned
to house & put up specimens.
August 1, 1951. Temps. -2°, +11°C. Wind down canyon before
dawn. Watched group B vicunas 6-7 a.m. Drove to traps.
Caught 1 B. pictus in 20 at 14000'. In 36 at 13800' caught
3 A. jelokii, 2 mm. A. bolivianae, 1 Neotoma, 10 fly-
mysteries! Highest loss taken yet. Returned to house.
Clear forenoon. Shot flicker at 14200', highest seen
in Limbani Canyon. Put up specimens. About 5/10 cumulus in
afternoon & breeze up canyon.
August 2, 1951. Temps. -3½°, +12°C. 3/10 cirrus + cirro-stratus.
Calm early morning. Watched local vicunas 6 a.m. 6 p.m.
By 10:30 a.m., 5/10 cumulus & fair breeze up canyon. Solid overcast &
light snow in afternoon.
August 3, 1951. Temps. -1½°, +11°C. Light snow enough
enough to show tracks. Fog gone 8 a.m. & 5/10 alto-cumulus
& alto-stratus. More fog & occasionally a few flakes
snow on & off rest of day. Shot & put up 2 flycatcher &
