C. Koford 99 Journal July 25, 1951 Aricoma, 15000', Dpto. Pongo Peru. Put up specimen + wrote note. Clear. July 26, 1951. Min. temp. -5° C. Clear. Fair breeze down canyons in forenoon, up canyon at noon. Smoky haze, thickest down canyon. Watched vicunas 6 to 9:30 a.m., 10-11 a.m., 12-3 p.m. Saw 5 condors at once in morning. July 27, 1951. Min. temp. -5° C. No clouds but smoky haze. Breeze up canyon. Horsemen + dogs dispersed vicunas in morning. Saw 2 Mitchell's plover philoscopes at edge rocky shallow ponds (black + white heads, reddish brown rumps). Groups A+ B returned to usual territories in mid-afternoon. 4/10 cirrus overcast in late afternoon. 4° C. at sunset (5 p.m.). No traps out. July 28, 1951. Max Temp. -6°, +10° C. since 10 a.m. yesterday. May watched vicunas, B groups, 6 to 7 a.m. No clouds. Light smoky haze. Breeze up canyon in forenoon + 5/10 thin cirrus clouds. Walked to upper der Mdee. + brook, shot 2 Mitchell's plover philoscopes where seen yesterday; put up, g+ or, gonads slightly enlarged. July 29, 1951. Min. temp. -7° -2° C. last night. Wind in night, ceasing in morning (fair wind down canyon). 5/10 thin cirrus clouds. Watched vicunas groups A + B, 6 to 11:30 a.m. Shot one Upucerchia & put up. Forenoon wind died; breeze up canyon in afternoon. Less haze today. July 30, 1951. Temps. -4°, +11½° C. Watched nearly vicunas 6 to 7 a.m. Clear. Drove to Liribani & back. Shot 4 viscachas between 13000' + 14400' (1 specimen). Set 20 snap traps near stream, rocks, tall grass, + occasional shrubs at 14000'; 3.5 miles down road from Act. Set 20 more traps among granite boulders + tall grass at 13750 ft., 4.5 miles down
