Arizona, 1500', Opto. King Per c.
1 Ophymycterus (like we caught below Limbaris). Group 36, in
a dry rocky area (where much ophcleus), held 1 A. jelskii,
1 P. pictus, 1 B. laminini, 1 Ophymycterus. Drove back up
to summit to look for cactus nest. Found old stick nest
but now in use. Returned to home 2:30 p.m. Aside from
specimens prepared, decided on like 1147 (Ophymycterus?), 20-86-
24-17-34 gms., 2, vag., per with tiny perforation, uterine horns
slender & clear; this taken on slope in dark area under thick brush
and granite boulder. Also decided smaller one, like 1146, ?, rip.
< 1/2 mm., 139-60-19-14-22 gms. taken same
July 19, 1951. Temps. -4°, +11°C. Clear. Put up remaining
mice. Set 20 traps around a stone corral 200 yds. SW of home
on dry hill. Browse up canyon in afternoon and into wisp of
cloud. Shot a 98 on ground at E. Ponds. 12:30, 2 of A. collected
one side on bare spots on ground. Another, came off at 2:51. Rolled
one side, stood; then came in usual manner, dam another area & gave
3 feet rolls into that side, then up + shock. 2:37, a smaller one of A
came from an adult + was apparently spit at. All 5 walked SE.
along slope. 2 rolled briefly on short grass. One put rock &
waste to ground as if to sub water, then down on side, gave a
roll, then up/ watched vicuna in late afternoon.
July 20, 1951. Temps. -3°, +11½°C. Clear. Shot goose of 13
near home. Two Traps (20) held 2 B. sublimis. Watched vicunas
9:15-12, 2:50-5:30. Fair breeze up canyon. Vicumulus in
afternoon but clearing.
July 21, 1951 Temps. -4½°, +10°C. Clear. Watched vicunas
6 to 6:30, 7:30 to 12, 1 to 5 p.m.. 3/10 cloudy & fair
