Aricoma, 15000'; Dpto. Puno, Peru.
Set 10+ more traps at in lowest group - about 60 out now.
Fox trap held Ø7. Shot young musaca near lowest trap line. Fox
5 killer, Ø7 (Ø7/12Ø). Put up Phyllostis lonini, fox (skull only),
1 Chinchillula. Moon about ½, waning.
July 12, 1950. Temps. - 4½°, + 8½°C. Traps held 1 Phylloto
sublonius (conal hill), 1 Penumys (bottom canyon). Clear;
breezy. Shot 2 pieces wiscocha & duck. Cut up spec-
imens. Three hunters visited camp in afternoon. They
gave me heads of 2 huemule + 1 vicuña. One said
that he had killed 2 bears within 7 leagues of Lim-
lani recently (men from Limbani). He said there were
many deer near Allapata (road to 3 km. from,
from Macuzoni - near Azuya?). He also said
there were many weasels near Mako. Set 5 live
traps for Chinchillula near rock walls 100 yds. from
house. Clear all day; somewhat smoky.
July 13, 1951. Temps. - 5°, + 10°C. Clear; smoky haze. Saw
fox near (100') trail and another ¼ mile away before 8 a.m.
Nearest traps held: P. pictus. Traps bottom SE Canyon
held 2 P. pictus, 2 A. jelskii. Discarded all mice.
Shot one musaca. Skinned 3 heads acquired yesterday.
July 14, 1951. Temps. - 5°, + 11°C. Clear. Near line traps
held: A. jelskii (discarded). Other traps not inspected. Drove
to Crecero for mail + supplies. Fished in Carabaya 9
miles toward Rosario from Creces. Took 18 rainbows,
5" to 14," in a" less than ½ hrs. at midday. Shot
[2 horses]
2 banderillas near Creces. Returned to Aricoma.
