C. Koford 93 Journal July 7, 1951. Aricoma, 15000', Depto. Puno, Peru. for roofless shelter 200 yds. NW of House where I oft watch vicuñas, "Indi- sian Marbles" are 3 rock piles (spire, vertical pile, & rock house) on S. Ridge at base of S. Hill. Breeze down canyon reversed to up canyon about 11 a.m. 7/10 overcast at noon; a few snowflakes 1 p.m. Overcast 8/10 at sunset. Sunset hygroph. to 5 at 5:25 p.m. July 8, 1951 Temps. -2°, +10° C. Low stratus cloud to E. sun rose above it 6:30 a.m. Calm until 8:30 a.m.; then fair breeze up canyon. 7/10 clouds (alto-stratus) to E. at 9 a.m. Watched 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Vicuñas 6:10-7 a.m., 8 a.m.-11:30, especially group of 19 (?)? 8/10 overcast noon. Fog up canyon about 4 p.m., stopping disappearing after sunset. Clear night. July 9, 1951. Temps. -3°, +10° C. Clear, calm. Breeze up canyon start- ing about 9:30. Low stratus cloud over jungle to E. Watched vicuñas, especially large group (?)?, 8 to 12, 1 to 4. They traveled about one mile during day. No fog in evening. Photo of duck in Island Lake. July 10, 1951. Temps. -4° C., +10° C. Clear. Breeze up canyon Large lay 8 a.m. Couldn't relocate group (?)?. Set traps; 15 near rock walls & yellow sage 100 yds. above House, 10 near stone coral a hill or at. E. side S. Pond, 5 near rock outcrop- ing there, 25-20° among rocks grass, & yellow sage near bottom of SE Canyon on N-facing slope (several picadoles there). By 11:30 a.m., 2 P. pictures and 1 A. yelshii in 15 traps, near House, another picture lay 4 p.m. (one ? pictures M.K. catalog), other mice discussed). Set for traps 50 yds. uphill from House. Clear all day with breeze up canyon. July 11, 1951. Temps. -3°, +9° C. Clear. Visited traps. Caught Chinchillas above House. 2 P. darwinii at stone coral; Set 10 additional traps, at another stone coral halfway down to bottom SE Canyon.
