To Aricoma, 15000', Dpto. Prov. Peru.
Irish Baptist missionary, with hdqtrs. in llave. He offered us lodging + parking space for car & trailer any time of day or night. Returned to llave Julica. About 2 p.m. started for camp. Arrived 9:30 p.m. (153 miles from Julica). Temperature since departure -3 to +13° C. Some members of road crew camped nearby had evidently found our camp, but only some wood & cans in garbage were missing. About 2 miles above junction (Poto Lumbani - Cuervo) saw a Conpete at edge of road in dry that grass rolling country, about 14000'.
July 1, 1951. Rested + overhauled equipment. After Dale departed in jeep for Julica to pack + send specimens to Mrs. Heller in Araguaipa. Drove to near Trespata and camped in car. About 7 p.m. saw a Conpete on edge road in rocky area at head of Lake Aricoma. It ran 100+ yds. in front of car along edge road, then descended banks a few yards & entered a hole.
July 2, 1951. Drove on to Julica. Picked specimens & put them on truck for Araguaipa (+ cols). Drove back to beyond Tails & camped in car.
July 3, 1951. Drove on to about halfway between Rosario and Cuervo. Then the slow-moving clear river came close to road. Saw 300+ trout of from 6" to 2' size in river. Fished about an hour + caught 5, smallest about 17," all rainbow. One with many eggs O sized. Largest
