Wind at night. Tempo. -2°, +9°. 1/10 cover at 8 a.m. L Peronys died for lack food having eaten leaves down to woody stem only. Did not set 2 other plants in cage. Put up Perony's. Left for traps 8:30. Traps held
3 Nectonys, all OO. One diseased. Returned to house 11:45. Set up
Nectonys. Took up all traps. Clouds increased to 5/10 by 2 p.m.
Prepared to leave tomorrow for Juliaca.
June 26, 1945
To Juliaca, Dpto. Puno, Peru.
at 8:45 a.m. departed from camp. Cover closer; very clear air;
little haze. Saw many vicunas on way to Crueros. Got
mail & drove rest of 150 mile to Juliaca. Pond near Rosario
had black rails, red fronted gallinules, geese, ducks ( teal &
digger down duck). Lake below Asillo had usual large quantity
ducks & coots. Red-legged coot with pale yellow bill on
rock islands 100' from shore. While one stood on island, another swam to it with green reeds in beak. Very windy at lake. Teal also in flock in pond north of Juliaca. Arrived Juliaca about 4 p.m.
Camped at first bridge on road to Nuemones.
June 27,1951.
Juliaca, Dpto.Puno, Peru.
Went to Clinica Americana. Dauff's away at Junie mil. We stayed there while writing letters, shopping, & having radiator repaired. Finished business 4 p.m. Drove toward Puno & back on Ariguipa road to about km. 25 (town of Tiquillaca (30?)), then turned left onto road to San Antonio de Espulache. Camped at
about 13800', just over a divide, 13 1/2 miles out on this road.
A bus & 3 or more trucks passed during the cold clear night. Mud
pass looking little grazed along this road. Many geologic
rock outcroppings.
