Arivona, 15000', Opto. Aseque, Peru
lot of hazing between individuals. Returned to camp. Became overcast at noon; a few flake snow in afternoon. I picked up my traps (no catch) and moved about 20 to 100' higher level 1/2 mile W. where again suggested Pinnupye. (Anise cottages in rock canties large fires). But the next camp held mine. 9 fox in morning.
June 22, 1951. Traps held (Chylletis), 1 Pinonups. Temps. -2°, +10°. Set about 20 additional traps in vicinity others and around some swammy & calm meadow. An Akodon jelskii got in trap between 9 a.m. & noon. Clear in morning but 7/10 overcast with cold east wind at 12:30. Returned camp.
shot one species. Put up animals & flushed pair of Attacis at E. de Mieu.
June 23, 1951. Temps. -2°, +10°. Clear at 7 a.m., 7/10 clouds by 10:30. Adult fox (S 112) in trap 50 yds. from house. Mary went w/o carb hunting; caught more. 10:30, I to trap line. No catch. Added 10 traps. Hundreds of fuzzy inch-long black caterpillars, which flew laterally, on distirbied most of this meadow (W. de Mieu).
Remains of many next to rocks as if eaten by mice. Returned to house. Substancial tumble so loaded. Half overcast 3 p.m.
June 24, 1951. Temps. -2°, +7°. Clear (1/10 cirrus). Light W. breeze. 8 a.m. went to traps, returning 11:15. Traps held 1 Pinonups (6.3 grms., F, vag. perf, rip. minute; kept captive, caught by foot), 2 A. jelskii, 1 Phylletis anim. (More put up). 7/10 cumulus lay noon & fair E. breeze. Phylletis had yellowish back, light fluffy lines on sides, huge ears (20.5-110-27-28, wt. 27 grms.), taken on shelf of rock near 3' long liana composite-like headed plant & climbing tola, 100' from water. Shot 2 ducks on pond (S. Pond). Watched vicunas for an hour or so before sunset 4:55.
Sunset. 7/10 overcast & fog coming up canyon at 6 p.m.
