C. Koford Journal June 8, 1951 Aricona, 8 miles SSW Limbani, 15000' Dpto. Puno 8/10 overcast in morning. Min. temp. -3° C., max. 8° C. Made route close to traps - catch 1 A. jelzkii. Then to farther traps: catch 1 Neotoma & 1 Phyllotis pictus. Walked up slope from both latter trap line to SW pass of Bonin. Shot 4 vireos at one rock slide on the way. Saw several large vicunas including group 13 + 9. 8/10 overcast 8 a.m., nearly clear 10 a.m., clouded up & light snow & hail 1 p.m. Overcast rest afternoon; fog coming up can- yon from E. after sunset. Set 12 additional traps above the icy falls (1 mile SW of house). One A. jelzkii in trap 4:30; discarded. June 9, 1951. 9/10 overcast at 8 a.m.; thin film ice on route. Close traps held 1 P. pictus, 1 A. jelzkii, 1 P. darwini (min., mt. 33, tot. length 212, E. testei 4x3). Saw 3, cock caught at base rock walls of corral near house; all descended. Visited the far group of 33+ traps; catch 1 Neotoma, 5 A. jelzkii, 1 large Phyllotis. Returning to house 11 a.m. found one min. P. pictus in trap. Nothing more in close traps by 4:15 p.m. Light snow starting before noon, sometimes heavy enough to hinder visibility, melting as hit ground. Spent 2 hrs. watching group 23 vicunas near house in p.m. Temp. min. 0° C., max. 70°, since yesterday a.m. In morning picked up top 5 of traps above Ice Falls & set near cliffs & thick grass. June 10, 1951 Close traps held 0. Far traps held Churchillia & 1 Akodon jelzkii (discarded). Min. temp. -2° C. Over- cast in morning (no snow last night) & occasionally a few snowflakes. Flushed pair of the orange-breasted Otacris ¼ mile SW camp. They flew with shriek repeated whistle &
