C. Kotford Journal June 4, 1951 8 mi. SSW Limbari, Opto. Puno, Peru. min., no signs of activity) in traps, 6 other spring & empty. Sunset 4:30 p.m. at trailer. June 5, 1951. Investigated the 34 traps at 8 a.m.; one ? adult P. pictus. Added one blind steel set to line. Clear day with minimum wind down canyon. -2°C since yesterday noon. We partly unpacked trailer and started to move to abandoned Indian times house & corral about 1/2 mile 5W of camp. but stuck too and camped at South Bends. Clouded up in p.m. but clear at night. June 6, 1951. Minimum temp. -6°C. Snap traps held 1 large Phyllotis, 1 P. pictus, 1 Zonotrichia. Shot an owl, & a gray bird with white throat which was common on rocks in pasture. Moved trailer to the Indian house for permanent camp. Put up specimens. Set 20 snap & Schuyler traps near corral near house. Cloudy in afternoon. New moon. June 7, 1951. Min. temp. -6°C. Clear night & morning. Fair breezes in morning. 2 Phyllotis pictus in traps at 7 a.m., & 3 more (+ tail of A. jelskii) by 9 a.m. All pictus apparently min. at 3 p.m. one A. jelskii in trap. From 3 to 6 p.m. walked in S. Boxin area and saw over 50 wigeons, & ? geese. Set 20 traps, 10 among tall grass & rocks on wet slope next to icy water- fall 1 mile WSW of house, & 10 among tall bunchy grass next to clear ponds in same area. No further catch in traps near house by 6 p.m. Breeze all day. About 1/2 clouds with light snow over snowcapped peaks. New moon. Shot an open goose now look for meat.
