Mr. Limbani, Dpto. Puno, Per
seen by roadside several times. Another much larger
and somewhat brown, in bushes. A large lunting? with
brilliant blue back & brilliant scarlet breast; at least 4
at one site. Small worm in wet undergrowth. Shot a black
flycatcher with chestnut breast & white superciliary lines at
edge river. Found a few bat-like droppings in lower tunnel
but saw no bats. Camped near lower end road. Set 40
snap traps on west bank & near tunnel & road, all near
rocks in bush height or grassy vegetation. At low sun
set about 2 p.m. because of depth canya. At least 3 miles
in traps by 7 p.m. Cool but not freezing at night. In
day, some insects (especially a large green-eyed fly) bother-
some. Little dew at night. Watched for bats in evening & visited
tunnel after dark but saw no bats.

Mr. Limbani & To Aricona, Dpto. Puno
Traps held Total catch in traps, 3 small dryganza?
one medium, one large (all put up), & 5 abdom-like
pointed faced mice (one dead). Departed about 9 a.m.
& lazily returned to our camp near Aricona. Viscaher
encountered at about 14000'. No huellter or vicunna
seen below camp area. 6 houses in use & cattle seen
less than 3 miles down road from camp. Many stone

rocks & houses above Limbani; a few below, where road
approaches river. In about 2 2 miles of road, a
drop of nearly 7000' (150' shot) from summit,
& plant
bird, & mammal life much different. At camp exam-
ined trapline & found an Phyllotis pictus (?? gm. ?
